Ceramic Christmas Tree Workshop
Carousel Creations Ceramic Studio

  • Workshop fee is $20.00, deposit of 50% required with registration
  • Includes bisque, lesson, glaze, firing, snow, plastic lights, & light kit.
  • Choice of green or white glaze, lights are mixed colors or pick-your-own.
  • Choose from a selection of our 7 – 8” trees (base makes them even taller).
  • First picture is your trees in greenware. Second is catalog pictures.

This is on a workshop flier that I just sent to No Limits. We would like to set up similar workshops for other groups in the area including, but not limited to, MRDD workshops, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H groups, church groups, and senior centers. If you know of a group that may be interested, please share this information with them. Workshop can be done at the studio or at their location if needed. Minimum of ten, please, for us to travel.

We Are Pouring Again!

It has been hectic around the house and in the studio since we returned from vacation and we have done very little mold pouring. When you leave the slip tub, hose, and nozzle full of slip for over two weeks it dries out and takes a lot of work to get it flowing again. I have poured a few small molds with a pitcher but cannot do the large molds.

ohio-state-tree-ccTomorrow Jim will make a trip to Ravenna for supplies including slip and we will start pouring again, probably on Friday. Please remind me if there is something I am supposed to pour for you. And get that Christmas list together so we can start pouring what you want to make. I think we are caught up on trees except for the Football tree — Laura, Mira, Notre Dame order, and two for Robin. Oh, and one large spruce tree for Linda.  Anyone else?

New Carousel Venture

carousel-necklaceI do not intend to go into the jewelry business. There are plenty of others who do that. But I bought an assortment of carousel and animal charms so that I can make carousel jewelry. Planning on necklaces, earrings, and charm bracelets with colorful beads. Maybe even some bookmarks and keychains. We have horses, unicorns, zebras, lions, tiger, buffalos, rabbits, elephants, turtles, and seahorses. If anyone is experienced I could use some input. Jim asked if I was planning on having jewelry-making workshops. Hmm! Let me get some made first and then if there is an interest we can do a workshop. (This picture is similar to one of the carousel charms that I purchased. I am hoping to sell the jewelry online.)

KIDS KRAFTS

Who’s a Kid?

  • Kids are children from 5 to 8
  • Tweens are children from 9 to 12
  • Teens are from 13 to 17
  • Adults are  18 and up

However, some items can be painted by preschool children with the help of an adult. Teens and adults are welcome anytime. Please only bring children to evening classes if you ask ahead of time.  Adults generally come for a relaxing evening away from their kids.

Classes

clipart-kid-painting-ceramicsNew weekly Kids Krafts after-school class on Thursdays from 4:00 to 6:00. Unlike the workshops, kids can work on whatever they want from the shelf OR order something in advance. We will have shelves dedicated to kids that have items they can do for $10 (that is usually a $5.00 bisque piece + $5.00 lesson fee).  They can also choose larger items at the usual price. Parents can drop off the kids or stay and paint something themselves.

Workshops

We are still offering Kids Krafts Saturday Workshops twice a month with a specific project featured. Adults, teens, and tweens are also welcome (with or without a kid). Kids who come to regular weekly classes can choose to do these projects then, rather than coming back on Saturdays. Kids Krafts Workshops are usually $10.

  • October 22nd — Button-jointed Witch
  • November 5th — Turkey bowl or salt & pepper shakers
  • November 19th — Studio Angels (bear, dog, or cat)
  • December 2nd — Santa mug
  • December 17th — Raggedy Ann or Andy in Santa Suit

Kids Groups & Parties

clipart-paint-palletYou can always set up a special workshop for your 4-H group, scout troop, homeschool group, or just a group of friends. (see Groups ) And how about holding this year’s birthday party right here? Each guest gets to paint something to take home. (see Birthday Parties) OR maybe even have your Christmas Party here. Guests could paint their own Santa mug, Christmas ornaments, or other items. We can accommodate 8 to 20 and you can follow up with refreshments and games if you like.

Always pre-register

As with any of our classes or workshops, it is essential that you let us know ahead of time. We try to have workshop items on the shelf but there is no guarantee. It takes at least a day to pour, a day to clean, and a day to fire your piece before it is ready to paint. Also, we are not a storefront and do not take walk-ins. Likewise, if you say you are coming please make sure to show up (or at least call and reschedule).

You may have noticed that kids have two-hour classes instead of three hours like the adults. That seems to better fit their attention span. Also, there are always drinks and snacks available (the kids remind me if I forget) and pictures (if I can remember to take them). Although we try to have a sample painted (or at least a photo), we find that the kids are much more creative than the adults, who want to paint their piece just like mine!

Selling Online

We have started to post finished items for sale online. You may have seen some advertised on your local Buy-Sell-Trade Facebook pages. Any item that is posted for sale can also be made in the studio. If you are not local to the Youngstown area, finished items or bisque can sent by mail. Always allow at least two weeks, more if we are busy or that mold has a backlog of orders. .

This tree is advertised as a football tree. The Pittsburgh Steelers tree was painted for an order as were the Ohio State tree and the Chicago Bears tree (I have to mail him the orange lights). The Oakland Raiders tree is not quite finished–still have to add the lights and some ornaments–but it is for an order as well. All of my logos are handpainted but you can use a decal. The last picture is the catalog picture which shows the oval cut  out with a small scene inside. We also have an order for Notre Dame and inquiries for high schools and hunters. This tree is $35.00 in bisque or $44.95 finished.

atlantic-0677-football-smilieThe football smiley was also advertised and can be made in any team colors, and any jersey number, high school, college, or pro. We also have the basketball smiley (and a cheerleader, clown, cowboy, and motorcycle). bisque is $12.00, finished is $20.00.

The Victorian Boot is painted as a Witch Boot for Halloween. Bisque is $10.00, finished with flowers if $20.00

As we continue to develop our business  you will see more finished pieces advertised. We have used EBay and Etsy in the past and I would especially like to showcase our carousel pieces. We do have a carousel workshop coming up this December — a Christmas Carousel Horse. Watch for it.

It’s Workshop Time

This week is the Patchwork Ghost and Turkey Workshop. We had several participate yesterday and more coming to our midweek workshop on Wednesday. We also had a few people order ghosts in bisque to be mailed to them.

Cost $20.00

We are making a Thanksgiving centerpiece.
Holland 1363  & 1364, Fruit Stack and Compote Bowl
(11 ¾” high + 4″ bowl = 16” total height).

The one in the picture is done in pearls. You can also use regular acrylics or Fashenhues to finish. The workshop is 3 hours but if you do not finish you may return and finish at another time at no additional cost.

Cornucopia Candle Holders (pair)This workshop is a really good deal:  the bisque is normally $16.00 + the $5.00 studio fee + a FREE set of matching cornucopia candle holders (bisque is $7.50 per pair) so the total value is $28.50. We are NOT pouring the fruit stacks for the shelf as it is a vary large mold. So you MUST order yours early.

Kids Krafts Button-Jointed Witch

Dona 1422 Button-Jointed Witch (CC)This was a popular, well-liked workshop done the last two years for adults. We are offering it this year as a kids’ workshop and only charging $10 (was $15 before). Kids will probably need help stringing the pieces together when finished. Waxed string and buttons are provided. (Bisque regularly $7.50)

If you are a tween or teen or adult who would like to make this, come on down — you don’t have to be a kid! Just make sure that you register for the workshop to guarantee your seat and your bisque.

For those interested in making lighted ceramic trees this year please check under bisque and look for Oh Tannenbaum or follow this link Oh Tannenbaum.

  • Order your tree at least two weeks before you want to work on it.
  • Bisque price includes base, glaze or stain, snow, plastic lights, and light kit
  • You can work on your tree during any Open Class (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday evenings or Thursday afternoon by appointment). Make sure you call first.
  • You can schedule a special workshop for friends, scouts, or any other group who want to come together to make trees. Days and times are flexible.

Home Sweet Home

If you are interested in where we went and what we saw, there is a summary and quite a few photos on my personal Facebook Page (and also some pics on Jim Warneke Sr.). I copied the summary post to the Carol’s Carousel Creations Facebook page but not the pictures..

NEW MOLDS

We purchased the Santa Tea-for-One mold,  the Snowman Stack (teapot sugar creamer), and the Plain Tea-for-One . We will start pouring them this week and already have orders for 8 of the Santa. These are each $7.50 in bisque and $17.50 finished. You can either use a solid or crystal glaze, paint your own design, use a silkscreen, or apply a decal to the plain one.

The picture on the right is a child’s tea set and includes teapot with lid, sugar bowl with lid, creamer, two cups, two saucers, and a tray. I have ordered this mold and will have it soon. What a lovely Christmas gift for a little girl. Again, you can paint or add decals — a quick way to paint the whole set. Price to be determined.

Vacation Plans

Closing

We have completed our vacation itinerary. Therefore, Carousel Creations Ceramic Studio will be CLOSED for two weeks.

Classes will be held this week Monday, Wednesday, and Friday September 12th, 14th, and 16th. Please note that we are also closed Thursday, September 15th.

There are no classes from September 19th to September 30th. Classes will resume Monday October 3rd.
