Alberta Dolls

 

Jamar Mallory

is the doll division of Alberta molds.
As you can see from the photos at the bottom of the page, these dolls are used for lace draping. They can be poured with either regular ceramic slip or porcelain slip. However, the latter is significantly more costly.

The lace is dipped into the slip, attached to the greenware, and then fired. The cloth actually fires out leaving only the ceramic lace. This is an area of ceramics which I know something about but have no experience in. However, we do have a colleague with some experience and may decide to offer classes in the future.

Please note that these dolls come in various sizes. Although we list 31 molds, I am not certain if we have all the “parts” for each of the sizes.

Non-Fired Lace

On another note I have done several similar dolls by attaching lace painted with acrylic stains. Also note the painted hats and addition of jewelry. These were done on Holland 446 Dottie, Holland 827 Rosie, and Duncan 397 Valentine Girl. Note that there are two different versions of Dottie, in yellow is an earlier mold; in turquoise is a revised mold (probably because the fingers kept breaking off). Rosie is in purple, and naturally the Valentine Girl is in red. [I actually won a ribbon at the Midwest Ceramic Show for the Dottie in yellow.]
