Penguin Tree

Penguin Tree CCFinished my first Penguin Tree this morning. Just have to add the base and lights now. There are eleven penguins (three on the back) and twelve signs. Used an aquamarine pearl and clear glitter on the ice cubes, green pearl and rhinestone eyes on the fish. Holly green dry-brushed with white on the tree. Put some snow and clear glitter on top of the signs. Have two more trees poured, ready to clean and fire for someone to make. Picture doesn’t show up the bling at all. You really have to see it in person!

Gingerbread Day

Trees

Doesn’t this first tree look good enough to eat? We could do this with any of our trees but I will have to see about finding the right glazes. Would love to try this one myself.

Also the gingerbread men someone put on our small spruce tree. I don’t think we have any cookie cutters this small but can surely roll our some clay and trace a pattern to make our own.

Cookies

S-K Potteries flat cookie-cutter molds.

Gingerbread house & gingerbread boy double-sided ornaments.
A gingerbread family that can be and used as add-ons or as ornaments.

Carousels

First is a gingerbread train station music box. Train moves on a turntable. We have this mold and I hope to have a sample soon.

Then there is a real gingerbread carousel someone posted online. This is not a ceramic mold but wouldn’t it be fun to try making out of slabs of clay?

More trees

Window Tree

This tree looks like the other Nowell trees but it is flat so you can put it on a shelf or windowsill. Make sure when you order  your tree that you actually want a flat tree.

Tree Light

clay-magic-2258-tree-light-top.jpg

This tree has cutout  stars, moons, and hearts and the light shines through them, rather than plastic twist lights like most trees.  (Tree is shown on a different base.)

Soft Trees

These trees are made to look like they are constructed from fabric.  Therefore they wouldn’t have lights. The base for the one on the left is no longer available and is really not needed since it is not lighted. The tree on the right is a music box tree — turn the tree to wind it and it plays music as it unwinds.

Nowell 1139

The tree that we use for sports trees can also be used for other designs which you can  decoupage (picture 1) or paint (pictures 2 & 3) on the oval area of the front. Or you could cut out a name or a theme to let the light show through the design (pictures 4 & 5). Also, the entire oval can be cut out and a small scene inserted directly into the wood-floor base. Perhaps a nativity set or a caroler or a snowman.

Salt & Pepper Trees

Nowell 1291 tree salt & pepperSpecify when ordering whether you want s/p holes drilled and the bottoms fitted with stoppers. You can decorate with glazes, underglazes, or stains and add snow, rhinestones, or glitter.

Snowman and Penguin Trees

These trees are quite large and take a while to paint all the detail. You can add names of the kids  or grandkids to the snowman bellies, or change the wording on the penguin signs. (When ordering, ask that words be removed when the tree is cleaned).

Spruce Trees

Spruce tree comes in 15″ and 7″ sizes — looks pretty much the same in the pictures. First is the 15″ tree catalog picture, then one I painted in stains. Next is the 7″ tree catalog picture, and one I painted in glazes. The large spruce tree takes the large twist lights.

Specialty Trees

Special Color Lights

All trees will come with an assortment of colored lights in the appropriate size. If you want all one color, please specify when ordering your tree.

Sports Trees

If you are making a “football tree” (or baseball or motorcycle, etc.) you need to determine what team colors you want to use. (Lights are not available in all colors.)Trees can be painted in glaze or in acrylic stains. Team logos can be put on with a decal or painted by tracing the design first with clay carbon. Decals require an extra firing and there is an extra charge for the decal.

Different Ways to Decorate

Most of these pictures have been borrowed from Facebook posts by other ceramists.

Military Trees

Candy & Cookie Trees

Holiday Trees (Halloween, Snowflake, Valentine)

There is much more to come but this is more than enough for one post. Trees come in many different sizes and styles, some too small to be lighted but we can always use jewels to decorate them. Decorating trees is only limited by your imagination!

It’s tree time again!

Now Scheduling Tree Workshops for Groups

These three trees are 7-8″ tall and are priced at $20.00. This includes bisque, acrylic paints or glaze, firing, light kit, plastic lights, snow, and glitter. There is also a $5.00 studio fee each time you come. For groups of scouts, 4-H, workshops, home school groups, nursing homes, workshops, senior centers, church groups, and so on we will schedule a special workshop just for your group. The studio fee will be waived. Rather than ordering a specific tree, painters will choose from an assortment on the shelf.  You can either come to the studio or we can bring the Party Van to your meeting place.

New Page

I added another new page tonight, although there aren’t many pictures to post as I kept forgetting to take them before giving away the pieces. LOL

star trek sky

It is called Star Trek & Beyond. The main feature is Star Trek items we have made for the USS Renegade to sell at shows. We don’t have any actual trek molds (except for some plastic cookie cutters) but we are adding designs to plain pieces, such as cups and tiles. This page also contains other outer space items such as E.T., Star Wars, and the YSU Planetarium Penguins.
Here’s the link: Star Trek & Beyond.

NEXT PROJECT is to make a Star Trek Tree, using the same mold we use for football trees. I am open to suggestions for the logo, color of tree & lights, and whatever accessories might work.

jeremy-st-pajamas-2-e1509061923588.jpg

And here is our Trekker. Although the whole family enjoys watching the shows, Star Trek is Jeremy’s passion. He has all of the movies and all of the series on DVD and he lives in a bedroom full Star Trek memorabilia including ships, action figures, plates, mugs, and so on.

We all belong to the local STARFLEET ship, the USS Renegade. We meet the second Tuesday of every month and alternate business meetings with activity meetings. If you would like to join, give us a call.
