The Mother’s Day Plates and the Porcelain Cameos turned out pretty good. I was asked NOT to post pictures until later since some of the moms receiving gifts also read this page. So watch for them tomorrow.

Check it out and order what you like or just pick from what’s on the shelf. This is a LINER BRUSH WORKSHOP .You learn how to use this special brush and even get to take it home.
This Kids Krafts Workshop is FUN for the whole family. “Why are they called BIG bugs?”, you ask. Because Ziggy the Chameleon is 13-1/2″ long and Doogie the Dragonfly is 12″. They will make wonderful additions to your garden, or just look nice sitting on your child’s shelf. We haven’t been able to pour these yet as they are new molds and the plaster is still wet but we will have them ready in time for the workshop. (These are catalog pictures)
Here are pictures of the Volkswagen “bug” and camper trailer. We already have some on the shelf and are working on painting the samples. The car and camper together measure about 15″long. If you want the car as a bank or the trailer as a bird house, you must tell us when ordering as patching holes and making cutouts must be done while the greenware is still wet.

Good Morning, Everyone! I see we made it through “May the 4th be with you” on Wednesday, and Cinco de Mayo on Thursday, this week. So now we need to finish up that last minute shopping for Mother’s Day, coming up this Sunday. And don’t forget those other mothers such as step-mothers, mothers-in-law, Godmothers, and even the women who are the mothers of your grandchildren!
OPEN CLASS TONIGHT at 6:30.There is still one more Mother’s Day Plate available if you want to make it. Or pick something else from the shelf. A gift you made just for her is always nicer then one from the store.
KIDS KRAFTS WORKSHOP tomorrow at 1:00 features a Musical Mother’s Day Card with many tunes to choose from. Remember, these workshops are for the whole family (and you can even come without a kid if you want). Your kids don’t want to make her a card? That’s okay, there are other things on the shelf to pick from.
The Porcelain Cameos from Sunday’s Mother’s Day Workshop will be fired and ready for pickup on Saturday. Jim will glue on the bails and you can choose your own chain or purchase a necklace from us.
And don’t forget to enter those new moms and moms-to-be in the Teddy Bear Baby Shower Contest. Scroll down to yesterday’s post for more information. The drawing will be held on Mother’s Day at 10:00 p.m. All entries will be placed in a hat and our son, Jeremy, will do the drawing.

REMINDER: Tomorrow Night is the Mother’s Day Plate Workshop and we have some in the kiln for those who ordered them. Jim poured an extra so if you want to make one, you can come Friday and still do so.
He also poured more music box size carousel horses for a student who wants to make some. If you are a carousel lover, come and join us Monday, Thursday, or Friday evening. And today I ordered yet another mold! Alberta 1097 a MB CAROUSEL GIRAFFE that goes with the set. (We also have a Large Carousel Giraffe, pictured). Some of the molds I thought I purchased and was picking up in Dayton weren’t there, evidently someone else had already bought them. So I will have to remove them from the catalog until I can find them elsewhere.
Jim and I attended the 2016 Annual show in Dayton where we attended six workshops and made lots of purchases from the vendors. Another aspect of the show is the competition. Although I took a quick look at the winners, I didn’t get any photos. Maybe next year we will enter one of your pieces!
The first workshop was PORCELAIN CAMEOS by Ruth Ann Jackson Perkins. Jim and I both made the cameos shown in the picture. He has been wanting to learn porcelain since we attended last year’s show. We purchased porcelain slip in white, blue, green, and pink and also several molds. Last night we were able to share what we learned in a Porcelain Cameo Workshop here in our studio.
Next I took a workshop on making CLAY FLOWERS while Jim visited the vendors. Mine is pictured on the left waiting to be fired. When finished, it is supposed to look like the smaller one in the picture. Michael Harbridge is a ceramic artist who always comes up with unique projects. Jim took some classes from him at another workshop last fall. We purchased 50# of clay from him and some designer mats so that we can share this technique with our students. I have never worked in clay before but expect that the kids will love doing this. Plans are to create a smaller version and offer a workshop this summer.
Later I took another workshop from Michael Harbridge, a MARBELIZING TECHNIQUE using Concepts underglazes over three coats of black glaze. This technique was a lot easier than I expected but does take some patience.
Again, we plan to offer a workshop in the near future.
Unfortunately, I was unable to get to all the workshops that I planned but we did return to Ruth Ann Jackson Perkins for another workshop on FASHENHUES. We first learned how to use these translucent oil paints at last year’s show and have been offering workshops throughout the year. Here is my watering can fairy house. Jim didn’t finish his pumpkin fairy house so we brought it home wrapped in plastic. We also picked up our Fashenhues order while we were there and are now fully supplied with all the colors including two new pearls–Sunshine and Chocolate.

LAST CALL FOR MOTHER’S DAY PLATES
This Thursday is the workshop to make this lovely plate for your mom. And just in time for Mother’s Day. This one was painted by Joanne, for her mother’s birthday. Didn’t she do a really super job? If you want one, we need time to pour, clean, and fire it for you so CALL NOW.
We have been busy painting the MB Carousel Horses and have nearly all of the Alberta line finished and posted (MB Carousel Horses). There are only two more to do.
The 
marbleized plate from one of the classes that I took at the Dayton Show came out of the kiln. I am very pleased with it and think it would make a good workshop for the kids (and anyone). The technique is easy to do but does take patience so may not be good for very young children. Although I do not have the mold in the picture this technique can be done on any plain piece. Any suggestions for what kind of piece to make at the Kids Krafts Workshop?
I was rather disappointed that the Kids Krafts Make a Musical Card Workshop didn’t have any takers. It is scheduled to be repeated next 
Saturday, May 7th at 1:00. If you know anyone who would like to come please tell them about it. Here is the list of touchtone music boxes we have for the cards: (1) Yesterday, (2) Over the Rainbow, (3) Saints Go Marching In, (4) My Way, (5) It’s a Small World, (6) Home Sweet Home, (7)Swan Lake, (8) Send in the Clowns, and (9) Greensleeves. These will work in any of the Dona Musical Cards and we have them for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Birthday, Wedding, Baby Boy, Baby Girl, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Christmas. Children as young as 3 or 4 should be able to paint these and it is a Make-It-Take-It workshop.
